NetLook™ is a small desk accessory that lets you look at all AppleTalk ressources on your local network.
In the next figure, you'll discover NetLook™'s window and basic functionnalities:
NetLook™'s window has two parts:
• First a dialog zone in which you can choose search criterias from popup menus before you scan the network with the “Lookup” button.
• Then the zone in which all AppleTalk ressources will be displayed.
NetLook™ will help you diagnose most of your network problems. AppleTalk phase II users could use "≈" (opt-x; ASCII 197; $C5) as wildchar. The string "Mac≈" in the name text field will find all AppleTalk names beginning by "Mac…".
NetLook™ is a freeware by Dancom in Switzerland, Direct Software Inc. in the U.S., Canada and Australia. You are allowed to make and give copies of it. You can in no case sell NetLook™ or distribute it commercially (or bundle it with a commercial product) without the written permission of

Tutorial:
--------
• Select NetLook™ in the Apple menu:
The desk accessory window pops up as above. Text fields “Name” and “Type” contain the '=' character which means that no search criteria applied to both parameters.
• If your network has more than one AppleTalk zone, you can choose among them and specify the very one in which NetLook™ will search. As default, NetLook™ will search all zones:
• Having choosen an AppleTalk zone, click on “Lookup”:
• After a few seconds informations will flow into the display zone of the window. You will be able to access datas by scrolling or zooming the window (depending on the screen size of your Macintosh). The first line displays datas about your machine:
• At that moment you can look at all AppleTalk ressources in the choosen zone. If necessary, you can be more selective by setting search criterias using the “Name” and “Type” popup menus :
• …select the “Name” popup menu and choose a name (this menu displays only available names on the network, it is empty until you first click on the “Lookup” button), then again click on “Lookup” :
• You now can look at a reduced list of AppleTalk ressources, all having the search criteria as name (in that case : “Nathalie”). The next two screen shots show what happened when selecting a subsequent search criteria for the type (Macintosh II ci).
• Only one item corresponds to these criterias !!!!
